Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the warmed milk, melted butter, egg, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Stir until it forms a sticky dough.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- After rising, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into long strips and roll them up tightly.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- While the rolls are baking, mix the powdered sugar and a bit of lemon juice until smooth. Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle or spread the glaze over the top.
- These rolls are best enjoyed warm, but they can also be served at room temperature!
Notes
To keep your Lemon Sweet Rolls fresh, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. These can also be frozen individually after baking and stored for up to 2 months. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
