Ingredients

For the filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2-3 pieces jalapeños, seeded and finely chopped Adjust based on your spice preference
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
For the wontons
  • 1 package wonton wrappers (about 30 total)
  • oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil works well)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped jalapeños, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
Assemble the Wontons
  1. Take one wonton wrapper and place about a tablespoon of the cheese mixture in the center. Wet the edges of the wrapper with a bit of water. Fold the wrapper diagonally over the filling to form a triangle, pressing to seal the edges tightly. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
Frying
  1. In a large pot or deep skillet, heat around 2 inches of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully add a few wontons to the hot oil at a time, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain the excess oil.
Serving
  1. Serve your Jalapeno Popper Wontons warm with your favorite dipping sauces, like ranch or spicy sriracha, and enjoy!

Notes

Store uneaten wontons in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For freezing, place assembled uncooked wontons on a lined baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes.
