Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 large onion, sliced Can substitute with sautéed mushrooms for a similar flavor.
  • 2 cups beef broth Vegetable broth can be used for a lighter flavor.
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix Ensure it's gluten-free if necessary.
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Use gluten-free buns as an alternative.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Butter for toasting buns

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned, breaking it apart and stirring often, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the sliced onions to the same skillet with the beef. Cook them for about 5 minutes, until softened, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and sprinkle the French onion soup mix over the mixture. Stir well and let it simmer on low heat for about 10–12 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. While the beef mixture is simmering, melt a bit of butter in a separate skillet over medium heat. Lightly toast the hamburger buns until they're golden brown.
  5. Spoon the savory beef mixture generously onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with shredded Swiss cheese, then place the top half of the bun over it.
  6. Serve your Irresistible French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes immediately while they’re hot and cheesy. Enjoy the fantastic balance of flavors with every bite!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can freeze the beef mixture for up to 3 months. Reheat on stovetop or in the microwave, keeping the buns separate until serving.
