Preparation
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix thoroughly to ensure an even distribution of flavors.
- Create three bowls for the breading station: one with all-purpose flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with a mixture of bread crumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- With your hands, take a small amount of the cheese mixture and roll it into a ball, roughly the size of a golf ball. Repeat until all the cheese mixture is used.
- Dip each cheese ball into the flour, then into the egg wash, and finally coat it in the seasoned bread crumbs.
- In a deep frying pan, heat about an inch of oil over medium heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of bread into it—if it bubbles up, you're good to go.
- Carefully add a few bites at a time to the hot oil. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally until they are golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the bites from the oil and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For storage, refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes or in an air fryer.
