Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Gradually mix in the flour and salt until fully combined.
- Press the shortbread mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Use your hands or a spatula to spread it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until it begins to turn a light golden color. Remove from the oven and set aside.
Apple Filling
- In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- Spread the spiced apple mixture evenly over the shortbread base.
Topping and Final Bake
- In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, brown sugar, and flour. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Evenly sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples.
- Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
- Allow the dessert to cool for a bit before slicing into bars. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
