Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Unroll the instant puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and allow it to thaw slightly as directed on the package.
- Place your pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a sharp knife to score a border about 1 inch from the edge of the pastry—be careful not to cut all the way through.
- Gently spread your chosen filling within the scored border, leaving the edges clear to rise beautifully.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a splash of water. Brush this mixture over the edges of the pastry for a glossy finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for around 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
Feel free to experiment with different fillings! It's halal-friendly. Keep an eye on baking time as ovens can vary. If your filling is juicy, consider pre-cooking it slightly to prevent a soggy bottom. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
