Ingredients

For the tart
  • 1 package instant puff pastry Usually found in the freezer section
  • 1 cup your choice of filling (e.g., seasonal fruits, whipped cream, or cream cheese) Customize as desired
  • 1 egg for egg wash For a glossy finish
  • Powdered sugar For dusting, optional

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Unroll the instant puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and allow it to thaw slightly as directed on the package.
  3. Place your pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a sharp knife to score a border about 1 inch from the edge of the pastry—be careful not to cut all the way through.
  4. Gently spread your chosen filling within the scored border, leaving the edges clear to rise beautifully.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a splash of water. Brush this mixture over the edges of the pastry for a glossy finish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for around 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different fillings! It's halal-friendly. Keep an eye on baking time as ovens can vary. If your filling is juicy, consider pre-cooking it slightly to prevent a soggy bottom. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
