Ingredients

Shortbread Cookies
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • a pinch salt
Caramel Layer
  • 1 cup caramel candies (make sure they are Halal)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or non-dairy alternative)
Chocolate Coating
  • 1 cup milk or dark chocolate chips (Halal-certified)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Method

Prepare the Shortbread Base
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and granulated sugar and beat until creamy.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Press the dough evenly into a lined 8x8 inch baking pan.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool.
Make the Caramel
  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the caramel candies with the heavy cream, stirring until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour the caramel over the cooled shortbread layer and spread evenly. Allow it to set at room temperature until firm.
Add the Chocolate
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips with the butter in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  2. Pour the chocolate over the set caramel layer and spread it evenly using a spatula.
Chill and Cut
  1. Refrigerate the entire pan for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate has fully set.
  2. Once set, lift from the pan and cut into bars.

Notes

To keep your Homemade Twix fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. If you want to store them longer, they can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For longer storage, consider freezing them in an airtight container for up to three months. Avoid cutting the bars while the chocolate is still warm to prevent a messy finish.
