  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Preparation
  1. Gather all necessary ingredients. Make sure to have your measuring spoons handy.
  2. In a medium saucepan, pour in the can of tomato sauce and add the 1/4 cup of water to achieve a nice, cohesive sauce.
  3. Sprinkle in the chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and sugar. Stir well to combine all the spices with the tomato sauce.
  4. Add salt to your preference. Taste the sauce as you go! If you like it spicier, consider adding more chili powder.
  5. Place the saucepan on medium heat and allow the sauce to simmer for about 5–7 minutes to meld the flavors.
  6. Once cooked, let the sauce cool down. You can use it right away or transfer it to an airtight container for later use.

Notes

For the best flavors, allow the sauce to cool and sit for a few hours before serving. Store in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze portions for up to three months.
