Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed High-quality butter is recommended for best flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Use to enhance flavors.
  • 1/2 cup cold water Chilled water helps maintain dough consistency.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Add the cubed cold butter and mix using a pastry cutter or hands until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add cold water, mixing gently until the dough starts to come together.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Rolling and Folding
  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough into a rectangle.
  2. Fold it into thirds, like a letter. Repeat this rolling and folding process four more times, chilling the dough between folds for 30 minutes.
Final Steps
  1. After the last fold, wrap the pastry tightly and refrigerate for an additional 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  3. Roll out the dough as needed and bake until golden brown and puffed, about 20-25 minutes.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough often and avoid overworking it. You can experiment with adding herbs or spices for extra flavor. Store any unused pastry in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
