Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 4 pieces fresh oranges, juiced (about 1 cup of juice)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons gelatin powder (can substitute with agar-agar for vegan option)

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by juicing your fresh oranges to obtain approximately 1 cup of juice. Make sure to remove any seeds.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.
  3. Sprinkle the gelatin powder over the mixture and stir until it’s fully dissolved.
  4. Remove the gelatin mixture from heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Pour in the fresh orange juice and stir until completely combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and place it in the refrigerator to chill for about 2 hours, or until the edges start to set.
  6. Once chilled, whisk the mixture vigorously to break up any ice crystals. Pour it into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  7. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, place the mixture back in the freezer and stir every 30 minutes until fully set.
  8. Once it reaches a smooth and creamy consistency, scoop it into bowls and enjoy.

Notes

For an elegant touch, top with fresh mint leaves or a dollop of whipped cream. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 month. Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving if it's too hard to scoop.
