Preparation
- Start by juicing your fresh oranges to obtain approximately 1 cup of juice. Make sure to remove any seeds.
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Sprinkle the gelatin powder over the mixture and stir until it’s fully dissolved.
- Remove the gelatin mixture from heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Pour in the fresh orange juice and stir until completely combined.
- Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and place it in the refrigerator to chill for about 2 hours, or until the edges start to set.
- Once chilled, whisk the mixture vigorously to break up any ice crystals. Pour it into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- If you don’t have an ice cream maker, place the mixture back in the freezer and stir every 30 minutes until fully set.
- Once it reaches a smooth and creamy consistency, scoop it into bowls and enjoy.
Notes
For an elegant touch, top with fresh mint leaves or a dollop of whipped cream. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 month. Let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving if it's too hard to scoop.
