  • 1/4 cup sugar Adds sweetness to the dough.
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast Make sure it's fresh.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted For the dough's richness.
  • 1 large egg Bind the ingredients together.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Base for the dough.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Main flavoring for the rolls.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Adds sweetness and moisture.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened Spreads easily over the dough.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by adding warm milk, sugar, and yeast to a mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and activated yeast mixture. Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Filling and Shaping
  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter.
  2. After the first rise, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle (about ½ inch thick). Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  3. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice it into 1-inch pieces. Arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  4. Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  3. Once baked, let the rolls cool for a few minutes before drizzling with your favorite icing or glaze.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, substitute almond or oat milk and use coconut oil instead of butter. The rising process is crucial for fluffy rolls, so allow ample time for dough to rise. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
