Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk Ensure it's not too hot
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted Can be replaced with halal margarine if preferred
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp) Check expiration date for effective activation
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
Filling Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins Optional
Icing Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1-2 tsp milk For icing

Method

Dough Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, followed by melted butter and the egg. Mix until combined.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Filling and Shaping
  1. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. If using raisins, toss them in as well.
  2. After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
  3. Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Roll it up tightly into a log.
  4. Slice the log into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
  5. Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until they puff up.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Mix icing sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. For longer shelf life, freeze tightly wrapped rolls.
