Ingredients

For the Fudge Sauce
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Must be unsalted for best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch salt Helps enhance the sweetness.

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until well blended.
  2. Pour the milk and add the butter to the dry mixture, and turn the heat to medium. Stir continuously until the butter melts and everything is combined.
  3. Keep stirring the mixture gently as it heats. Bring it to a gentle simmer, ensuring it doesn't boil over or stick to the bottom.
  4. Once the mixture bubbles slightly and thickens (about 5-7 minutes), remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Let it cool slightly before serving, but enjoy it warm for best flavor.

Notes

If the sauce ends up too thick, simply add a tablespoon of milk and reheat it gently. Experiment by adding a pinch of espresso powder for flavor or a dash of cayenne for heat. Store unused sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week and reheat as needed.
