Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Allow the mixture to boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. Aim for a temperature of around 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Once the mixture reaches the desired temperature, remove it from heat. Quickly add your choice of flavored extract and food coloring if desired. Stir briefly to incorporate.
- Pour the hot candy mixture onto a greased baking sheet or into your desired molds. Be careful; the candy will be very hot!
- Allow the candy to cool for about 30 minutes. Once set, dust with powdered sugar and cut into small pieces with a sharp knife or break apart into irregular shapes.
- Place your hard candy in an airtight container for storage or gift packaging!
Notes
Use quality flavorings and monitor the temperature closely to achieve perfect candy texture. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking. Experiment with various flavor combinations and molds for fun shapes.
