- Sprinkle in the flour. Stir constantly with a whisk to form a roux, cooking until it turns a light golden color. This usually takes about 1 to 2 minutes—don’t rush it!
- Gradually pour in the milk while continuing to whisk to combine everything smoothly and prevent lumps.
- Continue cooking while whisking for an additional 5 to 7 minutes or until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Remove from heat, and your homemade country gravy is ready to serve warm over your favorite dishes!
