Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Ensure butter is cold for flaky layers.
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk Can substitute regular milk mixed with vinegar.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until evenly blended.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to break the butter into smaller pieces until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Create a well in the center, pour in the buttermilk, and gently mix until just combined. Be cautious not to overwork the dough.
  5. On a floured surface, gently knead the dough a few times until it holds together. Pat it down to about 1-inch thickness.
  6. Use a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out biscuits. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they’re close but not touching.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the oven, and bake for 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  8. Remove the biscuits from the oven, let them cool slightly, then enjoy warm with your favorite toppings!

Notes

For best results, ensure your butter is cold. Store biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
