Ingredients

For the Sandwich
  • 2 slices slices of bread Use robust bread like sourdough or whole wheat.
  • 1 cup cooked roast beef, sliced Ensure the roast beef is thinly sliced for optimal layering.
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese Gouda or Swiss can be used as alternatives.
  • 1 tablespoon mustard Optional, to enhance flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise Optional, adds moisture.
  • Butter Butter for grilling Amount as needed for grilling.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather all your ingredients and slice your bread if needed. Thin slices of bread work best for maximizing the crispy texture.
  2. On one side of each slice of bread, spread a piece of mustard on one side and mayonnaise on the other.
  3. Lay the slices of roast beef on one slice of bread, covering it generously.
  4. Place two slices of cheddar cheese over the beef, allowing the cheese to melt beautifully.
  5. Carefully place the other slice of bread on top to complete the sandwich.
  6. In a skillet over medium heat, melt a tablespoon of butter until it starts to foam.
  7. Place your sandwich in the skillet and grill for about 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. Flip it gently, adding more butter if necessary.
  8. Once both sides are perfectly grilled and the cheese has melted, remove from the heat, slice the sandwich in half, and serve warm.

Notes

For substitutions, consider using turkey or chicken instead of roast beef. Don’t rush the grilling process; slow and steady wins the race for a golden-brown crust! Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat on medium heat in a skillet.
