Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6 cups apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and sliced) Aim for uniform slices for even cooking.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (or a Halal substitute)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare Your Apples: Start by peeling, coring, and slicing your apples.
  2. Mix the Filling Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir until mixed.
  3. Add Apples: Fold in your sliced apples gently, ensuring they get coated with the mixture.
  4. Heat the Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt your unsalted butter. Once melted, add the apple mixture, stirring frequently. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the apples become tender.
  5. Cool and Store: Remove from heat and let cool before using it in your preferred pie recipe, or store in an airtight container in the fridge if preparing for later use.
