Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. You should have about 6 to 8 cups of sliced apples.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- If using a store-bought crust, roll it out into your pie dish. If making your own, roll out your dough and carefully fit it into the dish, trimming any excess.
- Pour the apple filling into the pie crust, arranging the apples evenly. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter to enrich the flavor.
- If using a second crust, place it over the filling and trim the edges, pinching them together to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Baking
- Place the pie in the preheated oven. Bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.
Notes
To keep your Homemade Apple Pie fresh, store it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze it for up to 3 months. Reheat individual slices in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, or warm the whole pie at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
