Ingredients

For the Pie Filling
  • 6 to 8 pieces apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Use a mix for the best flavor.
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Freshly squeezed preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter For dotting on the filling.
For the Crust
  • 1 piece pie crust Can be store-bought or homemade.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. You should have about 6 to 8 cups of sliced apples.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  4. If using a store-bought crust, roll it out into your pie dish. If making your own, roll out your dough and carefully fit it into the dish, trimming any excess.
  5. Pour the apple filling into the pie crust, arranging the apples evenly. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter to enrich the flavor.
  6. If using a second crust, place it over the filling and trim the edges, pinching them together to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Baking
  1. Place the pie in the preheated oven. Bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  2. Let the pie cool for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set.

Notes

To keep your Homemade Apple Pie fresh, store it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze it for up to 3 months. Reheat individual slices in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, or warm the whole pie at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
