Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef or grass-fed ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa for extra protein and texture
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups lettuce, chopped romaine or iceberg work well
  • 1 cup tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup pickles, chopped optional
  • 1/4 cup diced onions optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or cooking spray for a lighter option
  • Your favorite burger sauce like a homemade yogurt sauce or tahini-based dressing

Method

Preparation
  1. Rinse 1 cup of quinoa under cold water. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed quinoa with 2 cups of water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover for about 15 minutes until water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 7-10 minutes or until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Chop lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions while the beef is cooking.
  4. Start with a base of quinoa (about 1/2 cup per bowl). Layer the cooked ground beef on top, followed by 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Add the chopped lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions as per your preference.
  6. Drizzle your chosen sauce over the top to add flavor and creaminess.
  7. Serve the bowls warm and enjoy with your loved ones!

Notes

You can swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option, or even a plant-based alternative. Prepare ingredients in advance to save time. Avoid overcooking the meat for juicier results.
