Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, beat together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and mix until you have a soft dough.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Using a heart-shaped cutter, cut out the doughnuts.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat (about 350°F). Fry the doughnuts until golden brown on each side—typically 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove them from the oil and allow them to drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar while they’re still warm.
Serving
- Allow the doughnuts to cool slightly, then serve them warm to your family and friends.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days or freeze individually to keep longer.
