Method
Preparation
- In a medium bowl, mix the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into thick patties.
Cooking the Patties
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Making the Gravy
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil if needed. Sprinkle the flour over the oil, stirring constantly for about a minute to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth, continuously stirring to avoid lumps. Add in the onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and dried herbs. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens.
Combine and Serve
- Return the hamburger patties to the gravy, ensuring they’re well coated. Let them simmer on low heat for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Spoon the gravy over the hamburger steaks when serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
For lighter options, sub ground turkey or chicken; ensure they are halal. Let steaks rest at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before cooking. Be patient with the gravy to achieve the best flavor.
