Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onions and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture with the chopped cabbage, cooked rice, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, oregano, Italian seasoning, and diced tomatoes if you're using them. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly mixed.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
Baking
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 25–30 minutes. Remove the foil for the last 15 minutes to allow for a slightly crispy top.
Serving
- Once ready, sprinkle with fresh parsley or cilantro for a pop of color and serve warm.
Notes
Can substitute ground beef with ground chicken or turkey for a lighter option. For a spicier dish, add cayenne pepper or jalapeños. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
