Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6 pieces Hawaiian rolls, sliced in half
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (or almond milk for dairy-free) Can use almond milk as an alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Optional, based on desired sweetness.
  • as needed Butter For cooking.
Optional Toppings
  • as desired fresh fruit Recommendations include strawberries, blueberries, or banana slices.
  • as desired whipped cream
  • as desired maple syrup
  • as desired powdered sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
  2. Place the sliced Hawaiian rolls into the egg mixture, cut side down. Allow them to soak for about 5 minutes until they are saturated but still hold their shape.
Cooking
  1. Melt a generous amount of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Carefully place the soaked Hawaiian rolls, cut side down, onto the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Once they’re cooked, plate them up and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

Notes

Allow the Hawaiian rolls to soak for the right amount of time. Experiment with flavors by adding almond extract or cocoa powder. Keep the heat moderate for even cooking. Using a non-stick pan makes cooking easier.
