  • 28 oz 1 package (about 28 oz) frozen hash browns Use frozen hash browns for best texture.
  • 10.5 oz 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup Make sure it’s Halal-certified.
  • 1 cup 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Divided into two portions.
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup onion, chopped Use yellow or white onion for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • to taste Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, melted butter, chopped onion, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until well mixed.
  3. Fold the frozen hash browns into the creamy mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and spoon the hash brown mixture into it, spreading it evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly over the top of your casserole.
  6. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  7. Once baked, let it cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Substitutions include adding cooked, cubed chicken or sautéed spinach. Cover loosely with aluminum foil if the top gets too brown. Use frozen hash browns for best texture.
