Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Ensure it's halal
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced Button or cremini work well
  • 1 cup beef broth Ensure it's halal
  • 1 cup sour cream Greek yogurt can be used for a lighter option
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • Parsley for garnish (optional)
  • Cooked egg noodles or rice for serving

Method

Cooking the Beef
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil or butter. Once hot, add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant and translucent.
  2. Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and fully cooked, around 5-7 minutes.
Adding the Mushrooms
  1. Once the beef is cooked, add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Stir well and cook for about 4-5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and browned.
Creating the Sauce
  1. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and mushroom mixture, stirring continuously for about 1 minute.
  2. Gradually pour in the beef broth while continuing to stir to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Finishing Touches
  1. Once the sauce has thickened slightly (about 3-4 minutes), remove from heat and stir in the sour cream until creamy and well combined.
  2. Adjust seasoning to taste, and let it sit for a minute while you prepare your noodles or rice.
Serving
  1. Serve the Ground Beef Stroganoff over cooked egg noodles or rice. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Ensure all options are halal. To avoid lumpy sauce, mix flour evenly before adding broth.
