Method
Marinate the Chicken
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine your olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Add the chicken strips to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
Cook the Chicken
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken strips.
- Cook for about 6-8 minutes or until they are golden brown, stirring occasionally.
- Ensure that the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
Prepare the Pita and Toppings
- Lightly toast your pita bread in a dry skillet for about a minute on each side, just until warm and pliable.
- Prepare your toppings by slicing the tomatoes, red onions, and cucumbers.
Assemble Your Gyros
- Place a generous amount of cooked chicken on a warm pita, add your toppings, and finish with a drizzle of tzatziki sauce.
- Wrap it up tightly, and it’s ready to serve!
Notes
If you have leftovers, store the cooked chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For best taste and texture, reheat in a skillet over medium heat or microwave. The pita is best enjoyed fresh.
