Ingredients
  

For the Chicken
  • 1 pound chicken thighs or breast, cut into strips Use boneless chicken thighs for more tenderness.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For Serving
  • Pita bread For wrapping the gyros.
  • Tzatziki sauce Store-bought or homemade.
  • Sliced tomatoes For topping.
  • Sliced red onions For topping.
  • Sliced cucumbers For topping.

Method
 

Marinate the Chicken
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine your olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add the chicken strips to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
Cook the Chicken
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken strips.
  2. Cook for about 6-8 minutes or until they are golden brown, stirring occasionally.
  3. Ensure that the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
Prepare the Pita and Toppings
  1. Lightly toast your pita bread in a dry skillet for about a minute on each side, just until warm and pliable.
  2. Prepare your toppings by slicing the tomatoes, red onions, and cucumbers.
Assemble Your Gyros
  1. Place a generous amount of cooked chicken on a warm pita, add your toppings, and finish with a drizzle of tzatziki sauce.
  2. Wrap it up tightly, and it’s ready to serve!

Notes

If you have leftovers, store the cooked chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For best taste and texture, reheat in a skillet over medium heat or microwave. The pita is best enjoyed fresh.
