Method
Preparation and Marinade
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to create a flavorful marinade.
- Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces and add them to the marinade. Toss to coat evenly and let it rest for at least 10 minutes.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces and cook for about 10-12 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown.
Assembling the Gyros
- Warm the pita bread in a skillet or microwave for a few seconds. Layer in the cooked chicken, diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, and red onion.
- Drizzle tzatziki sauce over the top and fold the pita bread around the fillings.
Serving
- Serve immediately with extra veggies or tzatziki on the side.
Notes
For a twist, try using turkey or beef instead of chicken. Ensure not to overcook the chicken to keep it juicy. Store leftover components separately for up to 3 days in the fridge or wrap pitas tightly for freezing for about a month.
