Ingredients

Popcorn Ingredients
  • 1 cup popcorn kernels Air-popped or store-bought pre-popped popcorn.
Candy Coating Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar Use granulated sugar for sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter For a rich flavor.
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup Creates the perfect candy-like consistency.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Helps the candy mix puff out.
  • a few drops edible glow-in-the-dark food coloring For that fun glow effect!
  • optional toppings (sprinkles, nuts, or additional candy pieces) For extra flair.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by popping your popcorn kernels using an air popper or store-bought pre-popped popcorn. Ensure there are no unpopped kernels.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Next, add the sugar and corn syrup. Stir until the mixture comes to a boil and allow it to boil for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the baking soda and edible glow-in-the-dark food coloring. Stir well to combine.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, pour the freshly made candy mixture over the popcorn. Carefully stir to coat all the popcorn evenly.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool slightly (be cautious; it will be hot!). Once manageable, use your hands to form the coated popcorn into balls.
  6. Place the popcorn bombs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set for about 15 minutes.
  7. Once set, enjoy your Glow-in-the-Dark Candy Popcorn Bombs fresh, or store them for later.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, you can use plant-based butter. Let the candy mixture cool before handling to avoid burns. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or freeze for longer storage, allowing to thaw at room temperature.
