Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing it lightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Beat in the molasses and eggs until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with hot water until everything is mixed well and smooth.
Baking
- Pour your batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth it out evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
- Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Cut slices and serve warm or at room temperature topped with whipped cream or a drizzle of honey if desired.
