Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can 15 ounces white beans (such as cannellini or navy beans), drained and rinsed
  • 2 cloves garlic, roasted (or raw for a bolder flavor) Roasting garlic will yield a milder flavor.
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: a sprinkle of paprika or crushed red pepper for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather your ingredients: Start by assembling all the ingredients listed above on your countertop.
  2. Roast the garlic (if desired): Wrap the garlic in foil and roast it in a preheated oven at 400°F for about 20 minutes. If you prefer a sharper taste, skip this step.
  3. Combine the ingredients: In a food processor, combine the white beans, roasted garlic, fresh basil leaves, tahini, lemon juice, and olive oil.
  4. Blend: Process the mixture until smooth. If it seems too thick, add water one tablespoon at a time until you achieve your desired consistency.
  5. Season: Taste and season with salt and pepper, adjusting flavors based on preference.
  6. Serve: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with paprika or crushed red pepper if desired.

Notes

Experiment with additional flavorings like lemon zest or sun-dried tomatoes. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. Consume within three days for optimal freshness.
