Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to create a round shape, about 1/4-inch thick.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sprinkle with salt, and sauté until they become translucent and slightly caramelized, around 5-7 minutes.
- Place half of the rolled dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the dough, followed by the cooked onions. Top with the remaining mozzarella and then fold the other half of the dough over the fillings, sealing the edges tightly.
- Brush the top of the dough with a bit of olive oil and sprinkle with oregano for extra flavor.
- Place the assembled Fugazzeta in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Once baked, allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy this cheesy delight!
Notes
For variations, consider mixing in sautéed bell peppers or mushrooms. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days and reheat in the oven for best results.
