Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, blending until a soft dough forms. Fold in white chocolate chips if using.
- Scoop dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers appear slightly underbaked.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For substitutions, you can use margarine instead of unsalted butter and opt for plant-based alternatives if needed. Ensure not to overbake to maintain a fudgy texture. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, refrigerate for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
