  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and granulated sugar. Beat until fluffy and pale, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Stir in the red food coloring until the batter is a vibrant red hue.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow the brownies to cool completely. Frost with cream cheese frosting if desired.
