Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter gently, without boiling.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter with granulated sugar and whisk until blended.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  7. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients without overmixing.
  8. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, until edges are set but center is underbaked.
  3. Allow brownies to cool in the pan before slicing.
