Ingredients

For the Pie Filling
  • 2 cups fresh apples or peaches, peeled and sliced Use ripe fruit for best flavor.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust according to fruit sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Pie Crust
  • 1 package ready-made pie crusts Homemade crust can be used if preferred.
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Optional powdered sugar for serving Dust on top before serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced apples or peaches with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Allow to sit for about 10 minutes to let the fruits release their juices.
  2. If using pre-packaged pie crusts, unroll them on a clean surface. Using a round cutter or a cup, cut circles about 4-5 inches in diameter.
  3. Place a spoonful of the fruit mixture in the center of each circle. Be careful not to overfill—1-2 tablespoons should do!
  4. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges with a fork to seal. You can also crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
Frying
  1. In a deep pan, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the pies in the oil, a few at a time. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  2. Remove the pies and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Leftover pies can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes. Un-fried pies can be frozen for up to 2 months.
