Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 4 slices slices of bread (your choice—brioche and challah are excellent options!) Day-old bread or thicker slices hold up better when soaked.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Butter For cooking
  • Maple syrup For serving

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, join the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Whisk them together until well combined and fluffy.
  2. Take your slices of bread and dip them one by one into the egg mixture. Make sure to coat each side, allowing excess mixture to drip back into the bowl.
  3. In a frying pan or griddle, melt a pat of butter over medium heat until it begins to foam. This indicates it's hot enough.
  4. Place the coated bread slices on the pan, cooking for about 2-3 minutes per side or until both sides are golden brown.
  5. Remove from the pan and let them rest briefly before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup or top with your favorite fruits!

Notes

Feel free to use Halal-certified pantry staples for compliance. If making multiple batches, keep the cooked slices warm in an oven set to low heat. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
