Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf loaf of bread, cubed Day-old or slightly stale bread works best.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • as needed Butter or cooking spray for greasing
  • as needed Maple syrup for serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Cube the bread into medium-sized cubes, about 1 inch.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  5. Gently fold the cubed bread into the custard mixture, ensuring each piece is coated. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
  6. Pour the soaked bread mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
  3. Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

For the best texture, use stale bread. Consider adding fruits or nuts for flavor variations. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
