Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until they become soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Allow to cool slightly.
Mixing
- In a large bowl, combine the ground sausage with the cooled onion mixture. If you’d like to add cheese, mix it in at this stage.
Rolling
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out your puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into rectangular pieces, around 4x6 inches.
- On one side of each rectangle, place a generous spoonful of the sausage and onion filling.
- Fold over the other half of the pastry to create a pocket and use a fork to seal the edges.
Baking
- Brush the top of each roll with the beaten egg for that gorgeous golden finish.
- Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes until they are golden and puffed up.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving, and enjoy your flavorful creation!
Notes
These rolls can be customized with different fillings and cheese options. Freeze unbaked rolls for later; just add a few extra minutes to baking time when cooking from frozen.
