Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Use fresh chicken breasts for best results.
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced Sweet onions work best for caramelization.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (fresh or dried) Fresh herbs can elevate the flavor.
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth (or low-sodium)
  • 1 cup cream (or half-and-half) Cream adds richness to the sauce.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese Can substitute with Gruyère or mozzarella.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional fresh parsley for garnish Adds a touch of color and flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 10-15 minutes until they become soft and caramelized. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. While the onions are cooking, season chicken breasts with garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper on both sides.
  4. Once the onions are caramelized, add the broth and cream to the skillet. Stir well to combine, then bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in a baking dish and pour the onion sauce over them, making sure they’re well-covered.
Baking
  1. Carefully transfer the baking dish to the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  2. Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese on top. Return it to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serving
  1. Once ready, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

For longer-lasting flavors, use fresh ingredients and cook the onions longer for a richer taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
