Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature for best results.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs Room temperature is recommended.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk Or use homemade buttermilk.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to your creamed butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour combination.
  5. Mix until JUST combined to avoid a dense cake.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce. Allow cooling completely before serving.
