- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to your creamed butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour combination.
- Mix until JUST combined to avoid a dense cake.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce. Allow cooling completely before serving.
