Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the cold butter, cutting it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk until a soft dough forms.
Forming the Base
- On a floured surface, roll or pat the dough into a circular pizza shape about 1/2-inch thick.
- Transfer the dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Preparing the Gravy
- In a medium skillet, cook the crumbled Halal sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
- Drain excess fat, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the pan.
- Sprinkle in 1/4 cup of flour and stir for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, making sure to break up any lumps.
- Continue cooking until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Assembling
- Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit crust.
- If you like, sprinkle shredded cheese on top for an extra cheesy finish.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuit crust is golden and cooked through.
Serving
- Once done, let the pizza cool for a couple of minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
For fluffier biscuits, chill your butter before cutting it into the flour. Keep an eye on your gravy—if it’s too thick, add a little more milk. Consider adding sautéed vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms into your gravy for added flavor.
