  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances flavor
Optional Toppings
  • nutmeg or cinnamon For sprinkling on top before serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Slowly add the whole milk and vanilla extract to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
  4. Sprinkle in a pinch of salt and whisk to incorporate.
  5. Lightly grease a custard dish or individual ramekins.
  6. Pour the custard mixture into the prepared dish or ramekins, filling each about three-quarters full.
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 30-40 minutes, until the custard has set, jiggling slightly in the center.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  3. Sprinkle some nutmeg or cinnamon on top before serving.

Notes

Use room-temperature eggs for a smoother batter. Consider using a water bath for even cooking.
