  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Make sure to measure precisely for the perfect brownie texture.
  • 1 cup sugar Can be substituted with coconut sugar or any preferred sweetener.
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce Can be substituted with mashed bananas or pumpkin puree.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix-ins
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) Consider adding more for extra chocolaty brownies.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the applesauce, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Remove from oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing into squares.

These brownies are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week at room temperature, two weeks in the fridge, or three months in the freezer.
