Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour for a healthier option)
  • 1 cup sugar adjust based on your sweetness preference
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cubed, chilled)
  • 1 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Toppings and Accompaniments
  • Fresh fruit (like berries or slices of melon)
  • Tea bags (your choice of flavor, for pairing)
  • Optional toppings: Whipped cream, chocolate spread, or jam for serving

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well blended.
  3. Gradually add the chilled, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk and vanilla extract. Slowly pour this into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. On a floured surface, knead the dough gently just until it holds together. Roll out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter or a glass to cut out shapes.
  6. Place your scones or shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Allow them to cool slightly. Serve with your favorite toppings alongside freshly brewed tea.

Notes

For a Halal-friendly twist, consider using plant-based butter or flaxseed meal in place of traditional butter. Avoid overmixing your dough to prevent tough snacks. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
