Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened It's essential to use unsalted butter for the best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter and powdered sugar. Cream until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Gradually sift in the all-purpose flour and salt while continuing to mix until well combined (avoid over-mixing).
  4. Pour in the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
  5. Pat the dough into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle on a lightly floured surface and cut into squares or triangles.
  6. Place the shaped cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the edges start turning a light golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use softened butter (not melted) and chill the dough if it's too soft. Feel free to top with melted chocolate or powdered sugar.
