Ingredients

For the dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk About 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted Use room temperature
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg for egg wash, optional

Method

Activation and Mixing
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk with sugar and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt; give it a gentle mix.
  3. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with melted butter. Mix until a dough begins to form.
Kneading and Rising
  1. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  2. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and allow to rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. After rising, punch it down to release air, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan.
Final Steps
  1. Cover the loaf and let it rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F as you wait.
  3. If using, whisk an egg and brush it over the top of the loaf for a golden crust.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack, slice, serve, and enjoy.
