- Gather all your ingredients and tools. An electric mixer works best, but a whisk can be used.
- In a mixing bowl, use your mixer to cream the softened butter until it’s light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition to avoid a sugary cloud.
- Pour in the vanilla extract and add a pinch of salt. Mix until fully incorporated.
- If needed, add milk a tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency. If it’s too runny, add more powdered sugar.
- Taste the frosting and adjust the flavorings as desired.
- Spread the frosting generously on cakes, cupcakes, or cookies.
Notes
If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a week, or freeze for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and re-whip before use.
