Ingredients

Meatloaf Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef You can substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped For caramelizing.
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as Gruyère or Swiss) Feel free to use your favorite cheese!
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Check for non-alcoholic brands.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until they’re golden brown and caramelized. Set aside to cool.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the cooled onions and mix well until all ingredients are nicely incorporated. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a log and place it on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Spread half of the shredded cheese over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Place the meatloaf in the oven and bake for about 45-55 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  7. About 10 minutes before it’s done, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and let it melt.
  8. Once cooked, allow the meatloaf to rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
