Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 1 lb Ground beef or turkey (halal-certified) You can substitute with ground chicken or lentils.
Canned Goods
  • 1 can (15 oz) Black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) Kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (28 oz) Diced tomatoes (with green chilies for heat)
Vegetables
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper Chopped (red or green)
Spices
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • ½ teaspoon Cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Broth
  • 1 cup Beef or vegetable broth (halal-certified)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Chop the onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Rinse the beans and set aside.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground meat until fully cooked. Drain any excess liquid and transfer the meat to your crockpot.
  2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, bell pepper, black beans, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to the crockpot.
  3. Pour in the broth, mixing everything until well combined.
  4. Cook in the crockpot on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  5. Before serving, taste and adjust the seasonings if necessary.
Serving
  1. Ladle the chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

For deeper flavor, add a few drops of lime juice before serving. You can also experiment with different beans or add corn for sweetness. Avoid overloading the crockpot.
